I Started a small business and signed up with Quickbooks Online. What a nightmare if you don't already know something about accounting like me. QB Online doesn't have any kind of instruction manual, but only a few videos to show you the basics. The videos are worthless for trying to find answers to problems you might have. I bought his book hoping to use it to figure out some of the mistakes I had made, and this book doesn't have anything on any of the problems I was having. It doesn't address Quickbooks Online at all. Oh, and if you are starting a new business and don't know much about accounting? You would save a lot of money and aggravation avoiding Quickbooks Online. Maybe learn how to use a spreadsheet instead.

I have been preparing taxes for small to mid-sized companies for many years, and am constantly frustrated with the mistakes people make while using QuickBooks. I have been searching for a resource to provide my clients, which will help minimize their mistakes, and have found it with this book. Bookkeeping errors result in tax errors. Tax errors result in problems with the IRS and your state's Franchise Tax Board. This easy to read and easy to understand guide is a useful tool for anyone using QuickBooks software.

For the low price of about a dollar (when this review is being written), you can pick up some useful "dos and don'ts" regarding bookkeeping in general. The title mentions Quickbooks, but that's misleading since the Introduction explains in detail why the author avoids discussing step-by-step instructions on the use of the various desktop and online versions. The author does mention a few universal Quickbooks features here and there, but that's about the limit of the coverage of that subject matter. Instead, the author presents 10 common mistakes people make with respect to their bookkeeping, while weaving frequent descriptions of his company's services throughout.THE GOOD: Common pitfalls are discussed with enough clarity to make you think about your current accounting or the books you are about to setup for your new venture. I particularly like the summaries he provides at the end of each section. The small page count makes this a quick read, and I believe it may also make it a good review text later just to checkup on yourself to make sure you're not forgetting basics.THE BAD: Quickbooks isn't really the subject matter it addresses. The author also states he's not a salesman, but he nonetheless promotes his business throughout. Hence, while useful, the main purpose of the book is to gain clients for his company.IN SUMMARY: I give the book 3 stars for being a cheap, quick read, that contains useful information. However, I can't give it a higher rating since it's not truly about using Quickbooks itself, but more an advertisement for his bookkeeping firm. I do believe it has value for you as you consider how to best approach your bookkeeping challenges, but don't buy it if you are looking specifically for a how-to guide for using Quickbooks.

This small book provides a rather superficial overview of common problems in the way businesses use QuickBooks. While it provides guidance on where to look for problems, don't expect detailed solutions. However the guidance should be very useful to the business owner who senses a bookkeeping problem but does not know where to start. One additional note, a significant amount of text is essentially promoting the author's company.

I wish I downloaded the free manual first before buying this. But, I bought several books and being a non profit I found a book specific to Quickbooks in Nonprofits much more useful, though much more expensive. The free manual gives a good basic work flow overview.

Not useful if you have no background in accounting at all nor if you have an idea of the basics that he is taking about because he couldn't be bothered to explain. Most of his efforts are into promoting his services than to giving you value by providing the information that you already paid for. Without that the book could be cut in half

This is a very helpful book! Great for anyone who finds bookkeeping confusing or difficult. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

having an accounting and tax practice, some questions, are never addressed, this helped me, find the answer. A couple of the answers, were not given satisfactory.
